The Selway River

The Selway / Selwai River is one of the original eight designated Wild & Scenic Rivers in North America. The name is derived from the Nez Perce and Snake Indian languages, meaning “smooth water.” Located in the remote Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness of Idaho, the Selway River offers unparalleled scenery, thrilling whitewater, and one of the largest inland rainforests in North America.

We look forward to taking you there.

Why Selway River Adventures

Selway River Adventures offers a rare opportunity to experience the Selway River with guides who know it intimately and treat it with care.

Our trips are led by seasoned professionals with decades of wilderness and whitewater experience, operating under a permit with roots on the Selway dating
back to 1971.

We keep groups small, guide thoughtfully, and prioritize safety, stewardship, and respect for place in everything we do. This is not a high-volume or scripted adventure; it’s a carefully guided journey through one of the most protected river corridors in North America, designed for those who value experience, integrity, and a deep connection to wilderness.
